I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, and my windshield wipers are stuck in the off position when turned off. otherwise they work fine. I would prefer to fix this myself as I don't want to pay someone else to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Do you mean that when you turn the car off, the wipers go into the upmost position even if you don't have them running?
My 97 Grand Prix has a similar issue but only when it's really cold. Like -10 degree mornings. If I use the wipers when it's that cold, they will work like normal, but then the come to rest in the upper position. Once they warm up, they work ok, but it's a bit annoying. If I used the delay function on the lowest setting then they would stay down because they don't go all the way down into the "stored" position (but they would function every 20 seconds or so.)
It's probably something messed up in the wiper motors, like a sensor that senses where the blades are at.

Anytime I turn the knob to the off position they rest vertically instead of the normal off position. If I turn the car off while the wiper's are still in the 'on' mode, they will rest wherever they were when the car is turned off. They won't ever go into the 'stored' position anymore, now the 'stored' position is up. That is the only thing wrong with them, if I need to use them for rain etc. they function properly and at the right speeds, it's just when I turn them off that they get stuck. Do you think this is something I will be able to fix? Or am I just wasting my time, and I should take it in? (I have little experience working on cars) Thanks

I just looked into this more and it looks like the wiper motor is going to need to be replaced. I haven't done one myself so I don't know how hard it will be.
Since you are looking to do this as cheap as possible I believe, check out http://www.car-part.com to find one from a local junk yard.
