I have a u-joint in my front left axle on my 96 Jeep Cherokee. 2 questions, first do I have to completely remove the axle to replace the u-joint, and if so what is the procedure for removing the old one. Need help here. Please reply.

Yes. you have to remove the axle which gets a little complicated. Therefore you better buy a repair manual for the vehicle. Most people remove the axle and put in a new rebuilt axle from autozone etc, cause if you have it that far apart you might as well replace it all and you can get a lifetime guarentee with the replacement part.
Good Luck

This is not necessarilly an easy job. You must remove the axle spindle from the end of front differential. Upper and Lower ball joints must be disconnected. The nut on the wheel end of the spindle must be removed as well. Once you have these parts out of the way, simply pull the axle, complete, from the differential. Then replace the u-joint, do the reverse to reinstall. You will never get a rebuilt axle of this type from any parts store.
Imperial90, This is not a CV type axle.
