The old traditional 3,000 mile oil change interval is going down the tubes. What's the feeling amongst DIY's that these new engine oils we're seeing will drive the last nail into the coffin of the attitude that changing the oil every 3,000 miles is cheap and the best?

Are you going to be Ok with putting oil in a 35,000 dollaer car, drive the next 10,000 miles and have a good feeling about it?. Go with what works, If someone on TV tells you mixing water with your oil is the best way to go. Are you going to try it?. If you do not have a good feeling about it don't do it.

Personally, I usually use the synthetic blend oil. I change between about 3500-4000 miles. When I was driving more highway miles (like 75%, now I drive about 40% highway) I was changing about 4000-4500 miles. I don't think that the oil filter really is good for much more than that, and although the oil appears to be ok, I don't really feel safe letting it go much longer.

Oil and air filters are getting better along with the engine lubes. So - how do you justify shorter service intervals than what these newer products are quaranteed for and cost less, 100,000 mile or fours years (whichever comes first) for the Ea air filter and 25,000 miles or one year whichever comes first for the Ea oil filter?
